Digital Arts R&D Workshops

During 2012 and 2013, THE SWARM facilitated a series of workshops across the UK for the Digital R&D Fund for the Arts.

The workshops were full-day collaborative activities designed to help build strong ideas and teams to apply for the £7 million fund to support collaboration between organisations with arts projects, technology providers, and researchers.  The Digital R&D fund for the Arts is a three way partnership between Arts Council England, the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and Nesta, running for three years from 2012-2015, designed to create innovation in the arts and to create sector-wide learnings.

At the workshops, participants worked through a variety of exercises that help them think through their projects from various perspectives, including:

- The stories that make up the ‘backbone’ of their project and that help them understand it from different perspectives;

- How to see their projects from a user point of view, using user-centred-design techniques;

- Tips on developing a ‘pitch’ to users for their project and;

- What the research agenda and questions around their project can be.
